What’s ADAS?
The Autonomous Car is an innovative driving system integrating Automated Driving Systems (ADSs) and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS). Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) are active safety systems designed to prevent, avoid, and reduce risks on the road. These systems improve driving safety by lowering the risk of accidents and boosting driver confidence. ADAS integrate with electronics such as Microcontroller Units (MCU), Electronic Control Units (ECU), and Power Semiconductor Devices to improve the system's overall performance. ADAS combines advanced safety features for vehicles and drivers in 3 main systems, namely, LAS (Lane Assist System), FDA (Front Drive Assist), and RDA (Rear Drive Assist). These features have 11 integrated sub-systems to help drivers feel safer and more confident on every journey.
LAS
The system keeps the car safely in the center of the lane. Utilising a front-mounted camera attached to the base of the rearview mirror, the system surveys its surroundings and road conditions to the front of the vehicle. When conditions meet certain criteria, the system will alert the driver or even assist in controlling the vehicle. The system employs the following three sub-systems to increase road safety and driver confidence.
FDA
FDA is a system that primarily operates through the front sensor. It adjusts settings and controls the vehicle when detecting worsening road and traffic conditions ahead. FDA can manage the vehicle’s speed, improve driving comfort in heavy traffic, and reduce the risk of colliding with the vehicle in front. The four sub-systems comprise the following.
RDA
Utilising sensors installed at the rear, RDA helps prevent blind spots. The system can detect traffic conditions on both the vehicle’s sides and rear, covering every blind spot. Upon detecting an object or obstacle, RDA will alert the driver with cabin warning lights and flashing lights on the side mirror corresponding to the detected object. This system can increase driver awareness and reduce the likelihood of collisions and accidents. RDA comprises the following four sub-systems.
